A Surya flagship experience that weaves content and commerce, and serves as an ever-evolving platform for Surya’s innovative and modern Ayurvedic philosophies, including life-affirming—and enhancing—treatments, products, education, and more.

My Role

Product Design Direction and oversight, UX/UI Design, Digital Strategy, Rapid Interactive Prototyping, on location photoshoot art direction, prepped detailed shot lists, aligned clients on website goals, Information Architecture, presented designs to clients, and created digital design guidelines.

Modernizing and expanding a unique wellness brand rooted in ancient Ayurvedic medicine

The look and feel of the brand was designed to convey a sense of balance, calm, and natural elegance. The combination of warm neutral tones, botanical imagery and classic typography brought Surya into the modern wellness space while remaining true to its heritage. Known as a pioneer of traditional Indian medicine in the west, Surya is an Ayurvedic spa and clinic based in LA. They needed an overall brand refresh to coincide with their opening of luxury hotel spas throughout the United States, and launching a DTC business. The objective was to create a new identity system for Surya, including a dynamic digital platform that incorporated immersive storytelling, educational content and e-commerce. Built for a flexible, extensible platform and optimized for conversion.

On location art direction for website photoshoot

I was on set for the photoshoot of the website giving art direction to the photographer on placement, lighting and shadows. The photographer used Capture One to load transparent files of the site designs to be able to shoot in live time the product’s placement throughout the site.
