AMERICAN EXPRESS DESIGNS

Any business that accepts American Express is considered an Amex Merchant. These are email designs sent to merchants providing more user-friendly content to watch and download, and informing them about Amex’s offerings. Business owners are busy people with a never-ending influx of emails. Getting them to open yours is the challenge we always worked to overcome on the American Express account. So we approached every email with one question—how do we create something valuable and worth opening for users?

Global Merchant Designs

I worked on the American Express account for Global Merchant Services (GMS) and also Global Corporate Services (GCS) with client management professionals responsible for delivering strong value to merchants across Everyday Spend categories. I also worked on designs and content strategy across B2B and B2C digital touchpoints for American Express customers, specifically in CRM communications.

Photography remains the preferred option for American Express when developing communications. However, in some instances where photography may not be an option, illustration can provide a compelling alternative. Illustration can be used to explain complex ideas and processes, and elevate the relationships Amex has with customers, merchants, businesses, and employees.

The American Express illustration system is designed from a common set of elements: an Icon Library, Object Series, and Cast of Characters which can be seen in some options below. This illustration system is intentionally flexible, intended to be expanded on and evolved as new markets, technologies, and communication needs emerge.

Our team integrated third party vendor functionality into these email campaigns to improve functionality and user experience.
